Yes it includes the owner, so as a stone you can have two others in your party.

How does it work when some players are stone and some players, say, obsidian rank in a party?

In My opinion, it would be useless, becausr you can easy make a choice Wich map you're playing. And you also have /fmsg to msg friends where they are and asking What They're playing. But I like the update That you can turn on flight, to fly automaticly in every lobby. But Nice update !
