minecraft launcher says play offline but im connected to the internet

Its a problem I had back in 2016. Just disconnect from your wifi, restart your computer, then reconnect and that worked for me.

in the past for me this indicated that the servers were down completely, waiting usually fixed it

I tried that but the launcher still says play offline and it says unable to fetch server status

Ok so that rules out area failure have you tried reinstalling minecraft?

I already reinstalled minecraft and it still says play offline

Maybe your firewall is blocking Minecraft?

I just figured out why minecraft wasnt working, it wasnt because of the firewall, but because in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\ i found a file called "hosts" and when I opened with notepad, it showed a code to make minecraft offline and after that, I deleted the file for good and minecraft works just as good
