You'd end up with maps that would look something like this:

Nobody enjoys that.

It would be almost impossible to take someones egg out if they put lava around it and you'd end up with people having lava around them whilst they collect resources and you wouldn't be able to hit them with a bow because you wouldn't actually be able to get close to them without burning.

Sure, lava can be good for trapping, but people would just spam place them all over the place, like mid or they would place layers and layers of lava around their egg and prevent anyone getting to it.
