Ive seen many people complain about the kits in competitive duels(mostly sword duels) but I feel like the kits do the best job they could. Particularly many people complain about pearls and waterbuckets, but blocks aswell and often say it should just be swords and I disagree. Addings blocks pearls and water bucket give the duel mode strategically depth beyond just clicking on your opponent better then they click on you. These options give counterplay and opportunity to worser players to capitalize off of their better opponents mistakes. Pearls are a risky way to finish off games or punish greedy players, and water buckets give opportunity to build distance to allow for the player to gap if they are unable to make enough distance normally, this can allow for slower controller/touch players to compete with pc players. 10 blocks give more opportunity to stop your opponents movement, get crits off of those blocks, or to get through water placed by the opponent. Im not exactly sure 10 blocks is a good amount(i think 16 blocks would be optimal) but overall it seems balanced. I would say the same thing about mace and crystal. Both give a limited supply of important resources like windcharges and anchors, which forces players to play wisely rather then games becoming who can stall and spam wind charges / anchors the longest until the opponent gives up. I cant say much for soup given its simplicity, but being able to instant drop bowls is nice to allow for easier usage of soup on touch/controller.
