They didn't start as hackers, not all of them. They were basically hacked into hacking, they kept having bad experience with them and ended up hacking, and that way more and more hackers keep coming, now i cant play a game where there aren't minimum 5 hackers.
More than half of Minecraft community are hackers, some are good at hiding it.
