High ground is almost never good in minecraft pvp :p with bows it can be useful otherwise it puts you at a reach disadvantage.

About the bow, you never know what kit you're gonna get. Duels also has some kits where you don't use the sword as a weapon, but there are also kits where you only have a bow.
