SkyBlock Reborn is one of my most played games on CubeCraft, the new hubs, dungeons and progression systems in the new update were amazing additions, but I still feel like it’s missing a stronger multiplayer aspect.
I know there's co-op, but besides that even though skyblock is played on a multiplayer server, the progression is completely separate from the community. This is fine to an extent, but I believe adding systems to allow players to interact with each other without completely taking away the progression would make the game feel much more lively and give players more to do long-term.
Island Visiting:
I believe players should be able to visit each other's islands without being in a co-op. For example, It could work like /visit [Player] and you’d teleport to a designated place the island owner set. The island owners would be able to set their islands to Public, Friends only or private. Visitors wouldn’t be able to break blocks, open chests, kill mobs, or interfere with the island in any way. Another cool feature, although less important, would be players being able to favorite/like islands they visit, or even some kind of island showcase system where the most favorited islands are featured or players can browse the most popular islands.
Obviously this would take some safeguarding. Like would the mobs be able to kill the visitors, can visitors die by other means, and ensuring wherever they spawn would be safe, but overall this is a much needed feature that would make the game mode feel much more multiplayer and lively. Right now the issue is there isn't really a reason to build an impressive island besides for yourself or your co-op. Giving players the option to show off their islands would add a whole new dynamic to the game and another goal outside of just progression.
Leaderboards:
The biggest addition I’d like to see is a proper leaderboard system. There are plenty of trackable statistics already, why not give players another goal of being the top player in a specific category. For example
You can also give rewards for placing seasonally, they don’t necessarily have to be progression based, but could be cosmetic or titles. If possible, bedrock and java leaderboards could be synced up.
This would give players a reason to keep grinding even after completing most of the normal progression, and also motivate them to work towards something and allow competitive players to grind toward something. I believe adding leaderboards would add a whole other layer to the game.
Player Economy:
I’d also like to see some form of player economy. This could come from player to player trading or a player marketplace. For trading, both players could place the items into a GUI and for the marketplace they could list things for skyblock coins.
The biggest hurdle here is not completely ruining progression, so for something like this to be implemented you would need to safeguard it a little bit. For example you could make it so they can only buy items that have already unlocked or even limit it to specific items like Runes, Auto Harvesters, etc and leave regular progression based items out of it.
Some other things you could include are community events, these could come in the form of weekly competitions, community goals, etc. Something to encourage playing together.
Overview:
I don’t think the game should be dependent on multiplayer, instead these features should become an optional Multiplayer layer on top of the existing game. Skyblock Reborn added a ton of progression, I believe these changes could help out the social side of the game mode. It could give players a reason to compete, show off their progress, and give them things to do in the end game.
I’m interested to hear everyone’s thoughts on this, and any other potential multiplayer features people would like to see added.
