Since the freebuild release the chat has gone from quite good to horrible. It's filled with spam. But, that's not what I will talk about in this thread, since I already have a thread dedicated to that.
What I'm here to talk about is the effect of the spam.
The people that spam gets a lot of diamonds, you can't hide that fact. But what makes it really bad is that they invade the most popular plot page.
Let me show you this example. This is the #1 user created plot. They probably spent an entire 20 minutes building it.
And this is another plot on the first row
You just can't deny the fact that they are ugly.
How can we let horrible (my opinion) plots like this get to the top? If they would've just spent as long time building as they did spamming, I would be ok with it. But this is a really simple, and imo ugly, build that does not require any real talent at all. I'm not saying this to get to the top myself, no. I don't even have a single public plot yet. But I really hate the fact that it's the spammers that actually gets the diamonds
I have already seen a suggestion (made by @TheJeroen , I think) that suggested that you reset the diamonds of the spammers when they get muted, but imo that's not enough. There was, luckily enough, a limit added of how much you're allowed to advertise, but the main offenders are respecting this rule.
A part suggestion is that you increase the limit to 15 minutes. This would make it harder for the spammers to time their advertisements correctly. The main idea, however, is that you do a diamond reset at the end of this month. I don't think you should do this every month, because that would be unfair for the people that managed to get up there legit. But then you might ask: "Why by then end of this month?". Well, basically that is enough time for most people to finish a good plot, and hopefully enough time to get the spam-filter (that @Mac announced) out there.
A third possible solution can be that if a plot gets enough diamonds to get to the front page, a staff member needs to review it before it can get to the top. This would defiantly be the best way, but it would require the staff to do a tiny bit of extra work.
The top list is supposed to be a place for people to come and look at good plots. Get inspiration. Not to look at ugly plots that have owners who are advertising it for hours upon end...
