Why can't I cook iron blocks?

New Bedrock player here... I can craft a furnace, but can't cook iron ore. Was this taken out for some reason or it hasn't been added to Skywars?

Do you know that you also need a fuel to smelt iron ores? A fuel could be wood, coal, lava bucket etc.
This might be a dumb question, but since you are new, you might not have known this.

Yes I've tried sticks and coal neither work as fuel.

I can confirm this, its happened in skywars with me trying to smelt iron and gold ores.Its frustrating when my items disappear every time from the furnace.

But why you need smelt things in skywars, that is a fast game?

You can't always find an iron pick axe to mine diamond ore. You can craft a wooden pickaxe to get cobble, use the cobble to craft a stone pickaxe to get the iron, yet can't cook the iron ore to make a iron pickaxe :(
