I believe when the Obsidian rank was released, it was the official last donator rank for the server -- however, even if that was not the case, the Obsidian rank is very expensive for a contemporary player, and if the Redstonerank was implemented, it would have very little benefits/differences to the Obsidian rank. Players who bought the Obsidian rank hoped to be a superior player, as they bought the highest donator rank CubeCraft offers. :)
