Welp, broken bows seem to be recognized now, so I guess this can be locked.

It seems like it only does it sometimes
I believe I have had it happen once to me while it still was broken

I agree! It is quite a challenge to obtain bows and other items from killing mobs so there would still be a challenge to obtain the items.
