Installing Mods

So, after looking at videos about installing mods and all of them in failure, youtubers failed me. So I decided to ask some of my CCG pals that are awesome (Not hackers, Lol) if they have mods, how to install them, and in the MACBOOK AIR version, because most are in windows. Can some1 help me out plz?

Last time I installed a mod it wiped my minecraft. Am not the best person to ask. There's always a tutorial when your installing though, just follow that
