"Golden Spoils" Quest

How should I go about getting 500 nuggets and 50 ingots from pigmen as fast as I can? Can I kill them from fall damage or do I have to manually hit them at least once before they die?

get looting sword and manually hit them i advice using iron or even cobble since its cheap to enchant to high level
