Earlier today rubik put out the Bedwars update announcement and it stated the addition of Skill Based Matchmaking. I would like to put out my opinion that adding skill based Matchmaking to CubeCraft in general is a terrible idea!

As we know SBMM (Skill Based Matchmaking) will divide the players into categories of skill which can be problematic as skill gaps range and can cause problems for finding a game with people at your level. But the reason for my dissaproval is the SBMM is never accurate. Taking for example Call of Duty. The SBMM is having average players that work 9-5 play against people who haven't slept for 3 days and are in the top of the top if the average player got one good game. This is my concern for CubeCraft adding it, you're normal players, when they win one game will possibly end up losing the next 5-10 matches because they had one good game.

That is my reason.

Agreed. SBMM is going to hurt the server more than help it. It basically turned normal queues into ranked queues. Like what you said, playing well will make your future matches much more difficult. Input based matchmaking is fine as it is. SBMM is likely going to funnel high CPS sweats in your matches if you're good at the game and make it a nightmare to play, and I can't compete against that! The main reason I avoided playing on the other server I won't name is because its too sweaty, which makes it not enjoyable. I enjoy CubeCraft because the games are fun without it being too easy or sweaty every game, it's medium most of the time.

SBMM is breaking EVERYTHING.
1. Ruins the Asian Community
Asia already has a much smaller player base compared to NA or EU. Stop splitting our already tiny player pool with strict SBMM! It completely kills our matchmaking.
2. Turn the game into a Ping-based nightmare (EU/NA favoritism)
When high-skill Asian players queue up, the system can't find enough local sweats, so what does it do? It throws us directly into EU sweat lobbies. Connecting from Asia to EU means playing with 300+ ping. At that point, it’s not about skill anymore—it’s pure Ping Supremacy. It literally feels like low-key harassment against Asian sweats, turning us into free kills for EU/NA players who enjoy local ping.

Instead of skill-based matchmaking they should introduce region-based matchmaking. AS player fight against AS players.
I’m currently playing BedWars Solo, and I can’t get an Asia region match at all. This is absolutely terrible. CubeCraft clearly doesn’t take Asian players into consideration at all.

I really hope this won't get added. Now don't get me wrong, if there could be a sperate mode for it, sure, thats good. But making that the baseline... idk about that. Also, I dont think it could work accuretly, or what about wide skill gap parties? My friends who dont play as much as me might have a terrible time if they constanlty have to play ws better players than them, which I guess could get boring really fast.

I dont see how this could be implamented well...

SBMM is horrible. I literally can't think of a worse idea to add to a server. My speed runs are already cooked enough without SBMM, any actual grinding is gonna be cooked. If they fully implement this, announcing my leave.

Edit: Not even gonna talk about how much longer queue times would be because of this. Already bad enough.

They already did add it for Bedwars, go look at the Bedwars update notes... They plan on bringing it to everything

In my opinion, I dont think skill based matchmaking is bad. I still have yet to face any genuinely good players despite winning most of my games. The only time ive really lost with an actual teammate was against a speedhacker. From what I can tell it almost feels like they forgot to implement it. Especially given that queue times feel the same, the level of my opponents feel the same.

If your bad man just say it. Theres no need to be ashamed of your skill level. everyone improves with time!

It would be fun to see skill-based matchmaking added but I have some questions and concerns about how this would work + some ideas on how to implement this better.

I get where the idea of skill-based matchmaking is coming from, but I wonder how skill will be determined? I guess.... by wins? Winfarmers will always have more wins, but do they have more skill?

I guess the reason to implement this would be to improve the experience for most players by making matchups more even. Which it would, unless a skill-based system replaces the current queuing system entirely. If this will be the case, alt accounts, that already have more experience, will be queued with new players with less experience and therefore ruin the experience for new players. Personally, I like the idea of playing against more skilled players and I have always thought that, because I believe the only way to get better is to play against players with more skills. I often queue and want to play against more experienced players, not because I find every game too easy, but because I like the competition and challenge. Some people are complete opposite.... uhmm.... winfarmers....

I believe it would be better if there was a separate queue, just a separate competitive queue if you want a more challenging or competitive game, regardless of your level or number of wins. It would remove the problems with alt accounts queuing with people with less experience and so on. And again, winfarmers can choose the regular queue and still be happy. The sweatiest games would be in the competitive queue and leave regular queues for anyone who wants.

If the skill-based matchmaking system would replace the current queuing system, alt accounts would probably be less of and winfarmers wouldn't be too happy. If the purpose of this implementation is to remove alt accounts and winfarmers, it might work, as alt accounts would get bored of the experience, but that means a lower player count and fewer people buying ranks=less money to Cubecraft. Simply, just make it two queues per gamemode, one normal and one competitive and let people choose their own skill level. Solves all problems. :)

Idk, I was playing in a p with my friends, and while we did see slightly better opponents, the only game which proved difficult was vs an another party of 4 nerds grinding wins like we did, but if you play on mush, that's expected so idk I seen nothing out of the ordinary, (this was on bedrock tho).

I say it's bad is bechuse playing a 4v4 between good players is mostly fair/fun. But there are already pgs for that. And a 4v4v4v4 where everyone is similar skill level would drag on forever. Even the usual 4v4s takes till death match, let alone more players. Now I am not sure how strict it is, so this may not be a huge issue, but I don't see how would this benefit most players.

"The only time ive really lost with an actual teammate"... is the point in a way. Now imagine getting actual enemies in every single one of your games. I don't lose a lot either, but the issue is multiple good enemies, esspessially if you play without being in a party, is bad. Parties ussually win anyways, even vs better (but random teammate) players.
Since most of mine (and assume your) losses come down to theese few things:
a) A hacker, who actually thinks for 2 seconds
b) Lag/dissconects/crashes/bugs
c) Cross teaming, trolling teamates
d) You mess it up, we all make mistakes
e) Capable enemies/parties
f) Losing bed at just the right (unlucky) moment

EDIT: I do like hard games too, but I dont really like the idea of EVERY game being that hard though. Would get really tiring.

You are right that facing a competetive player instead of random players is not wrong. But it can break things like grinding, matchmaking with your friends, and can increase queue time too. We should keep skill points of players but skill-based matchmaking is absolutely terrible.

I definitely see your argument, but i dont feel like every game is hard. i would say most of the time my opponents are still significantly worse then me and i can win running solo squads most of the time if im going for the win. might just be because i havent gotten on when the good players are on or something but ive yet to face anyone outright better then me in a bedwars match yet. i suppose i am likely a little bias as i enjoy 1v4ing teams as its good for clip farming.

in my opinion if you are grinding leaderboard rankings you should probably already be good enough to win effectively every time, even if you are facing mildly above average player. even though i think most better players disagree with match making. i actually think skill based matchmaking as a whole is better for weaker players. i think to most players, getting insta rushed by a team of 4 who instantly murder you without giving you a chance to fight back is unfun. separating better and worser players would allow for worser players to have a better experience and improve their skills. ive seen parties of people who are comically good spawn camp a team of 4 newbie players and repeatedly kill them untill they leave the match.

You're attempt to call a high level player with a bunch of records bad is childish. It's painfully obvious you haven't played games OR this server long enough to understand how bad sbmm is for the gaming industry and CubeCraft
