You know that time when this very annoying guy got muted? Or your favourite thread-spamming, 11 year old bedrock wannabe got banned from the forums again? And you just want to know for how long?
You used to be able to see all active and previous punishments (except warnings) on the appeals site, including evidence. You could just count how many times someone got punished for a certain thing to know how long they were muted/banned for. Expired punishments were then removed from the site, and staff wouldn’t tell you if you asked about someone else’s. But you could still ask for how long a current punishment of someone lasts. Now, however, even that isn’t allowed to be shared by staff members anymore, because of ‘privacy’.
I don’t think that makes sense. I get that you wouldn’t want everyone to know you got muted for saying something stupid (and seeing what exactly you said) 5 years ago when you were like 10. I don’t get why people knowing how long you got punished for would be a problem, though. So I think being able to ask how long someone is punished for should be answered again. The same goes for forums/discord punishments, you don’t get the reason and duration of punishments on those platforms, which I think should be given as well.
Reasons I can think of why you’d possibly disagree:
- You’re punished at the moment and you don’t want people to know how often you’ve been punished for that offence before (by knowing how long you’re muted you can know how often they’ve been muted before): Okay that’s sort of a good point, but I wouldn’t say people knowing how often you’ve been muted really is a problem, knowing what you’ve been muted for would be more of a problem imo.
- You see a couple other ppl have disagreed/you’re a wannabe and you see a staff member has disagreed/you’re a wannabe and for some reason you think you have to disagree with every suggestion: Pls stop you’re literally ruining this system it’s so annoying
