Well, you get an hour afterward to compile. You just have to be done coding by 9:00 EST.

Btw, for the people who wonder what Ludum Dare means, "ludum" comes from "ludus", which means game in Latin. Dare could also come from Latin (Dare Do, which is the verb "to give"), but I think it comes from the English verb "to dare". If you translate it correctly and fluently, you should end up with something similar to "Game for the bravest".
I could be totally wrong though...
