What happens if you take a Cube, and give it a ranking system! That's right! Competitive Duels appear!
As we announced in the BedWars update, we were trailing out a ranking system in some of our games to make the games feel more balanced! To continue that path, we asked the question "What happens if we take this ranking system, and go literally as far as possible with it". This is where we landed! Super Competitive Duels!
For those of you who want to continue playing our Normal and Overpowered Duels, they have been moved into Casual Duels!
Let's get into what makes these duels different to our already loved Normal and Overpowered duels that we had previously! - Read below to learn more!
The Competitive Kits
For the initial release, we've picked four different kits to launch with. They are as follows:
For each kit, you also have an associated ranking. Winning on that kit will increase your ranking, and losing will decrease it. If you go against a better opponent than you, you will lose less if you lose and will gain more if you win. The system adjusts win rewards based on your opponent's skill.

Duel Brackets
You'll notice that there are different brackets. Brackets are a cool way to show off your skill level in a specific kit! They range all the way from Copper to Star, and only the top 100 of each input device can obtain them!
Based on the distribution of players across these brackets, we may adjust the requirements slightly at the beginning if too many people are in a specific bracket.

New Duel Summaries
We've gone all out with our summaries at the end of each duel you play, either in Casual or Competitive. They inform you of the winner, the health and damage dealt by each player, and the duration. Everything presented is a fully custom design, which appears on your screen and in chat at the end of each match or game.
1v1 Casual Duel Summary.
Summaries are also available in 2v2 Casual duels, informing you of the winning team and kills, in addition to the usual stats.

And most importantly, Duel Summaries are in Competitive Duels, for each round and a full match summary.

Competitive Duels Seasons
So that your ranking can be immortalised forever, we decided to introduce seasons! At the end of the season, your ranking can no longer change for that season. When a new season begins, it may bring new kits and mechanics; however, we're not committing to anything for next season until we know how Season 1 performs!
Input Modes
Do you play on multiple input devices? If you play on your phone and a PC, you might be panicking right now, thinking that you're limited to a single ranking, but fear not! For each input mode you play on, you have a unique ranking (which does mean you need to do your placements for each input mode you play on). This means you're free to play on any device and have unique ranks for each one.
Also, because this is competitive, if for any reason you switch input modes mid-game, we will disable your input until you switch back! It's not fair to the other player to start randomly switching how you play mid-game!
Duels Matchmaking
Similarly to BedWars, you'll try to be matched with players who are a similar skill level to you. We've also introduced ranked matchmaking to casual duels; however, as in our other games, we won't show your ranking there, and it'll remain hidden. For Duels as well, we've routed all our Duels games to our best hardware to ensure the highest possible gameplay quality.
For Competitive Duels as well, we have disabled cross-region matchmaking. This means even if queue times get longer, we won't matchmake you across regions, as we understand doing so might make you lose just because of poor latency, and we don't want that! This does have the consequence that queue times may be longer off-peak, but we feel this is worthwhile!
