I placed an anvil on my island (crafted from iron) and I am unable to break it??? How to break??

You can break anvils with a pickaxe i recommend a iron pickaxe or above.

nope doesnt work. anvil doesnt break. If you try to break it, it just shows the anvil repair menu

Depends on the platform and controller.
PE has a own on screen button for it
Win10 it's shift
On XBox/with controller it's the B-button

Thats strange, I can break mine on PE, XBox and PC, you should contact a staff member as this looks like a bug.

Or is it directly under/next to a shop villager? Cause then it's normal and you would have to remove the shop to break it.

If you can't break it manually, is there a button on the "Anvil Repair" menu that says something like "Destroy this anvil" or "Dismantle this anvil". I don't have an anvil myself yet so I have no idea.

You can try moving it so that it falls onto a slab if they fall in this server I think.
I'm on Jungle so I don't know.

If you use a fully repaired pickaxe (presumably a stone) you can just mine it without giving a menu in your screen
