Should they get rid of this rule?

To help to be clear, the rule was made to keep from having the games me majorly elongated by the players that would trap using obby and just continuously kill players without breaking the egg (whether to annoy/trigger/whatever). Where they only have the intent to kill players for more points when they could just be playing games normally and possibly getting more points for getting an actual win.

Also, you have to look at it from a new player's point of view. What if you were a new player and you just found the great game of Eggwars? You join the server and jump into a game. Granted, you may not know the commands of the server and not everyone knows that /leave or /hub were a thing. It would be very triggering and demotivating when you get trapped in your spawn by blocks that take literally 5 minutes to break with your fist and were repeatedly killed by someone who knew the game better than you did. I personally would get a bad impression of the server and might never want to come back.
How would it feel to lose to a team in less than 2 minutes in mansion?

I've had that happen. This is why I don't play the 10v10 maps often. Also, this has nothing to do with the current topic being discussed. If you have a suggestion to fix an issue, then please make a suggestion thread about it.
Well, they're similar. One is farming wins. The other is farming kills/points. Which is why it made no sense for this rule change.

They are not as similar as you think. One is playing a game, quickly, with friends and being good at the game. The other is trolling and not playing the game how it is meant to be played. If a player wants to continuously kill other players while they respawn, they can go to play assassinations or FFA. Granted, I don't believe that gives points, but it can satisfy the need to kill players.

It is real sad that ppl nowadays get points and stats in this way....
I agree with this rule, kill farming is not the most honorable thing to do and it can make new players quit

I'm more concerned with the fact that instead of actually fixing the problem, they opted to haphazardly change how they define "trolling" so that kill-farming falls under a rule violation. Keep in mind this behaviour has been used since the game was released (2015!!) to farm either points or leaderboard statuses. To change it, unannounced, over three and a half years later, should be extremely worrying to any active Eggwars player. Who knows? Spleefing opponents can cause some upset too, should that also be defined as "trolling" because some people put themselves in situations where it can happen, and because the nature of the execution seems provocative? Keep in mind, if you are already at such a deficit that another team has raided your base, manually placed blocks around the perimeter of your spawn point without dying and have killed you enough times to nullify your threat, then you have already lost. Players caught in this trap stand no chance of winning and therefore have no reason to stay in the game. Your egg doesn't have to be destroyed for you to be able to type /leave.

Here is an example of how lazily worded this new rule is: Let's say my team of four raid somebody's island. I put a team mate in charge of destroying bridges, and another two in charge of guarding the generators so the island's natives cannot get any points to buy gear or blocks. I then proceed to stand around the spawn point, killing the other team repeatedly. This is not against the rules then, right? Even though the same outcome is produced, I have not barricaded them in their spawn point via blocks, therefore the illusion that they can escape is still there.

I think this rule should be removed. If kill-farming is really that big of a deal, then they should actually fix the problem rather than punishing people for participating in what has been a recognised strategy for over three years. You already cannot place blocks around a team's villager; add this feature to spawn points too, or randomise spawn locations within the radius of the entire spawn island. Either of these solutions would be low-effort and immediately fix the problem, without giving staff the extra hassle of punishing people who had no idea a rule was even being broken.

Also, there needs to be more care taken in regards to rule changes. Many people had no idea a rule had even been changed, and it was the same when camping was disallowed; should we all be reading the rules thread daily now to make sure our strategies haven't been outlawed in our sleep? There should be announcements - both in-game and on the forums - counting down until a rule is put into place.

Let me just start this off by saying that we will not be removing this new trolling sub rule. This new rule was added as we were getting multiple reports from our partners and other players informing us that their EggWars experience was being ruined because players were blocking them in with obsidian purposely to kill farm them, or to trap them and keep them there without breaking their egg. I'm sorry, but we will not be allowing kill farming using this method. It will be a lot better if people played the game as intended, going to someones island, blocking them in or not, breaking their egg then eliminating the team. To be more clearer on the rule change, you're not allowed to block a player in with obsidian or any other material, if your objective is to either kill farm them, or just keep them there for nothing to do. You're still allowed to block players in, to avoid them from stopping you from getting their egg, that's completely fine and an understandable reason to block players/teams in.

I completely understand if people are upset about this new rule stopping them from having their fun with farming, but if you were in the shoes of the people getting killed over and over again, you wouldn't have the best experience and probably wouldn't want to join our network again. If for you to have fun on our network is to make other players experience bad, you're doing something wrong and it's near the same lines as ruining someones experience with a cheating client. A part of the trolling rule to avoid another players experience from being ruined. Sky basing can be seen as trolling as you're interrupting someones gameplay causing them to need to attempt to build up, avoid the lava around the base to get you, that's not fun. As said above, spleefing is not a form of trolling, because you're using it to kill or eliminate a player, you're not doing it purposely to ruin their experience. Now if you're blocking a player in to just kill them again and again, stopping them from escaping or just keeping them there for nothing to do, that is not fun, and will continue to be seen as a form of trolling.

I can see that players like to kill farm in EggWars as it adds to their kill statistics (which isn't shown on a leaderboard so it would be pointless to farm for this objective) or to obtain the points from the kill. The only way I could see this rule being amended to remove the kill farming part from it, is if points from kills are removed and only given to kills which are eliminations. I will being addressing this change in the future anyway. The rule will never be fully removed, as blocking a player in with obsidian and just keeping them there to laugh at and to do nothing with them, that's fully trolling and does not have a true purpose to block them in for. As for the announcement of the rule change, I planned to announce it on our Discord server the next time something was posted, but if it's insisted, I will make a mini post now.
