@SpritySpritz Looking for Alaska is wayyyy better, start with that first
Is looking for Alaska anyway related to the fault in our stars?

Yea, it is a romance book, but the plot doesnt rely to much on, which is nice. It's not a traditonal love story, let's put it that way, and it keeps it interesting enough to even keep, the kind of people who doesn't normal read romance/love books, reading. Ofcourse if you completly despise the notion of a love story(Which would be silly) then i wouldn't pick it up. One thing, it is very deppressing so if you don't like that, i would try to avoid this book, but it is definetly still a really good read, and it doesnt overflow you with just ''this is so horrible! you should feel so bad about this'', it keeps the deppressing content in moderation and sometimes even joke about it, which is nice, to kinda lift the over all mood of the book. Overall, the characters are amazing, and they also feel so genuine(With a few exceptions). The main character is a perfect example of this. There is not one time in the book where you second guess the way she behaves, she feels like a genuine person. The characters have depth to them, and have really good and characteristic personalities. It's also really well written.

The only thing is, when you take away the cancer, the plot is just well gone. They live in their illnesses and if you think about it, did they genuinely love each other, or just have a relationship because both thought they would pass? Technically the "love at first sight" is rather cheesy, as they barely knew each other before dating. The fact that she traveled at another's leisure is stupid, because of her cancer. And when with Gus, Hazels mom just lets her run around despite her medical episode just weeks before.

Of course the book wouldnt have much to it if cancer wasnt a part of it. The book is about cancer, they wouldnt even have met if that wasnt a factor. And of course she lives in their ilnesses, she has to carry around a airtank for the rest of her life, and is going to always have trouble breathing, while he has a prostetic leg, and will never do sports again, also talking about hazels depression. Its even a plot point that cancer kids become their illness, so it makes sense. And it wasnt really love at first sight, she had an attraction towards him, because there was a hot guy at the support group, who kept staring at her, while it might be condsidered ''love/attraction'' at first sight, the book didnt use that, at any point in the rest of the book, it uses other themes to carry it, rather than love at first sight.
