So back in the day I made a custom Minecraft Client. Everything started as a silly joke and ended up becoming a reality. You can read more about here (you can't download it though, removed). I believe it's good to publish the source code, if you want to get inspiration (or copy pasta it, but you'll have a tough time doing it).
