Coding OptiFine with Forge?

Optifine should, mostly, work by dropping it into the mods folder. It is intended to be used this way with Forge.

Is this true? And if so, how do I do it? I tried once, but it didn't really work.

Methods to use OptiFine:
1. The latest versions of OptiFine are installers, just double click them and extract.
2. Download forge (installer), create a "mods" folder within ".minecraft", put the optifine jar into the mods folder and launch of the forge profile.

The mods folder is only mainly used for forge.

Yes, if you're using new-ish versions. The old versions of optifine won't be as easy to install with forge.

You open the forge profile within the minecraft launcher. Just select it.

The OptiFine launcher doesn't require forge. To install that, double click the jar, and click "install" then wait for it to be complete.

So what do I put into the mods folder again? The installer or the thing after that?

The optifine file (mod file) is the installer. I'm getting confused by you saying "the thing after that", you don't get anything after that.

Hey man, Ill help you out,

first of all download a forge mod loader, or just forge google it. Then download it, edit your profile and select the forge you installed, run it once then close minecraft.

Now press the Windows Key. and R. Run %appdata%, go into the map .minecraft, there should be a Mod map now, put your optifine in there (google Optifine compatible with forge) and your done. Goodluck

If you want to use forge I suggest using a different launcher, its a bit easier to install mods and such.

No, absolutely not, different launcher may come with virusses, while forge works fine, so, a bit extra work to secure a safe way to install a mod, I know how, and I want to explain ;)

I don't see any reason for him to use a different launcher, especially if he wants 1.9 mods like better PVP for example.

You can have different modded profiles, its easier to install mods most of the time .-. Im not saying he has to, just what I recommend.

Exactly, forge is easy to install and use, different launchers has delayed updates.

Just move the optifine.jar into the forge mod folder
