So, I thought that his rough idea truly had potential, and I decided to expand on it since the old thread seemed to have been forgotten.
The game would be called BlockFall or something else, the name does not really matter, and it would be sort of a mesh of Spleef, survival, and PvE.

Survival Time Period: 5 minutes

{Gameplay Explanation}
Survival Period
For 5 minutes in a new generated world every time, each player will have their own separate section in that world with a border (maybe 50x50?) where they would try to get as many resources as possible, armor, swords, food, etc. No PvP would be enabled, and players that die would get infinite respawns, able to collect their items if possible.
Battle Period
For 1-10 minutes, players will be placed in a custom arena with a one/multilayered floor, similar to a spleef floor. PvP would be disabled, and mobs (zombies, not creepers, skeletons, etc.) would begin to spawn, and their spawn rate would increase rapidly over time. Players would then fight the mobs, only when they kill a mob, the block they are standing on vanishes. As more mobs are killed, more blocks vanish, and the floor becomes even more tedious, until eventually, someone falls. So what if they just run around and avoid killing mobs? You might say. Well, mobs will never stop spawning, so if they do that, the horde of mobs will get bigger and bigger, and they will be able to hurt the player, eventually killing him. (Yes, mobs can hurt players, but players cannot hurt other players) This is where any armor, food, or weapons obtained during survival period is useful, because you only spawn in with those items and your kit (optional)
Player vs. Player Interaction
As more players exist, the floor area will be more and more overcrowded, making it harder for players to see and maneuver.
Extra notes
-NO camping is allowed in any way shape or form, and any fly hackers caught in the arena will be banned instantly.
-Players CANNOT break blocks, only mobs that die are able to break blocks underneath them.
