Can't really say this because there are other factors, if I had a stack of gold too I'd go for two pieces of iron armor and get an iron sword. With only 12 diamonds I would get a diamond sword, unless I just killed someone and need a diamond pickaxe to break their obsidian.

As long as you dodge, you don't need the armor. If you can hit consistently, take the sword.

Using a bow to kill someone is usually in interest of saving time and effort. Nothing wrong with that.
If you had a bow and a great opportunity to shoot someone off of a ledge, I'm sure you would take the opportunity if it benefits you.
