Does the Fortune enchantment actually work on a pickaxe as I feel like it doesn't even make a difference and it only takes into account my player trait and that's it.

I guess fortune iv and above is useless as fortune Iii diamond pickaxe always give 2 diamonds and if you got dense ore rune from forge on pickaxe by any chance you will get a block but it has low percent chance.

That's a shame if that is true, as it basically makes fortune useless if your trait is high enough lol

Agreed. The custom traits system in Skyblock seems to limit how the Fortune enchantment works. It definitely needs a buff or a fix from the devs.

I totally agree with you.
I literally have an Iron Pickaxe with Fortune Level 8 but it only drops like 2 or 3 diamonds at most.
It definitely feels bugged or limited by the system

if you have fortune 8 and get 2-3 diamonds it works like intended. fortune 8 gives 80% chance to get double the drop. fortune+ore chance from lvls/gear/shrine are combines. in the past fortune 20 was needed to get always 3 iron/diamonds etc... now fortune 8, high mining and ore fortune on your chest can get you close to to 200%

it does work. but its custom fortune, which gives you a 10% chance for ONE extra item per level. this means fortune 5 is a 50% chance to get ONE extra item, fortuen 20 is a guaranteed 2 extra items.

not double btw. if it were double, lapis, copper and quartz would go even crazier in numbers than they alr do on their own.

true with those not, with my test on lapis i got.
0 fortune and 0 ore fortune (1 mining) 5-8 lapis
88% ore fortune 0 fortune 8-13 lapis
though not double but still a decent increase
