As you probably know (assuming you've kept up to date) both Bukkit and Spigot got sent a DMCA takedown request from a guy called "Wesley Wolfe", and as such, both services have temporarily removed any downloads available to follow it.

The reason this guy is able to request this is because a long time ago he committed some changes to the craftbukkit repositories that got included in all further builds, and since Spigot is a fork of Bukkit, its included there as well. Due to messed up laws on what you can do with your own code, as a developer, it is showing that even though the code committed freely to the community, he still retains copyright to this code, and therefore is able to resort to DMCA's.

While theres a lot of drama and conspiracy theories going on over why he has done so, and why he even implemented that original code in the first place, this is evolving to be an interesting event, and Bukkit, Mojang, and Spigot are all doing what they can to bring their downloads online again.

This, obviously, affects us too, and every server owner out there, almost all of us rely on either of those projects to run our servers, in the events they shutdown, we don't have much else to do other then following and shutting down. Coding our own server software in-house would be so time consuming we would not have time to even focus on managing the vast amount of plugins we have already, not to mention trying to push out new ones.

We obviously hope for the best, and in any case we would ask you not to start drama about this, as theres already enough out there. If you wish to sustain us, then donate, as it is the best thing you can do to help us, no matter what happens.

Since we always keep updated versions of both CraftBukkit, Spigot, and BungeeCord, we have the latest versions and will try to share them accordingly, to keep the community running on what we have.

If you download it from any file sharing site or similar, make sure you are running safe code, I have created a list of hashes to compare to, from our own jar files. There are lots of guides online on how to check file hashes, just google it for your OS.

    ---

Thats it for now, we hope both Bukkit and Spigot are able to make their official downloads available again, and that all this chaos with EULA and Mojang gets to an end, which hopefully will be positive.

Not necessarily, we found some interesting projects that would work for us the same way bukkit does.

I've noticed a lot of big servers have jumped ship to BungeeCord. Might be a good idea if this whole fiasco kills Bukkit and Spigot.

Would be better to put this in news rather than Media, this is pretty important tbh.
