With gold ore, you can mine it and get the gold back. Why not make you have a chance to get 2 gold? Like every 5 you mine you get 2 gold or there is a 25% chance of getting 2 gold.

The idea of gold ore is to trade excess iron (and time) into gold. It's supposed to be a net loss so that generators are still the main way of acquiring resources.
