I'm sorry but there is no way to get a rank for free.
If you don't want to buy a rank then you can always enter giveaways, which are regularly posted on Twitter or enter competitions such as Halloween's build competition, where the top prize is a rank upgrade. You can enter for that competition over here: https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/halloween-build-contest-official.168184/
The only other way to acquire a gold rank is by buying it in the Cubecraft shop. (https://store.cubecraft.net/)

I don't think it isn't against the EULA. People get the same chances to win a rank and they already made every rank EULA-friendly. [I like to say it like that :P]
Well im seeing alot of servers getting flagged for it, cosmicpvp as one of them after the ranks there were made eula compliant they were told they couldnt give ranks out as it wasnt eula compliant, one thing i will say if you look at the eula and the eula faq and study server features, mojangs playing pick and choose amongst all the major servers enough said

I just don't understand why that would be against the EULA, I would only understand it if it were features that you wouldn't be able to get otherwise. But with the same odds on getting a rank.

As said above, there's no way on getting a rank for free, only on special occasions. I recommend checking out our Twitter. We do give away there sometimes. We currently are having a Halloween build contest on creative which was recently released. 1st place winners get a rank up. :D
