What you mentioned as "Cubecraft Gold" already is, and has always been a thing over on the Java network. :)

I don't see how that is pay to win in any way.

Changing the gamemode does not provide you with any gameplay advantage because everyone has to play the same gamemode you voted for.

If paying meant any sort of perceivable ingame advantage, such as extra items or some kind of actual boost, then it'd be pay2win

I see your point, but i would not call this pay to win. As it was already said, the gamemode is changed for every player in that game, so you will not be able to take any advantage of that.

But with regard on the leaderboards, you can kinda say that being able to vote can make you grind wins faster, which would make it easier to get a high position on a leaderboard. For example the CTF rush Mode or the Eggwars OP Mode, provide faster gameplay, which can lead to more wins in less time
