Server status

Once in a while the minecraft severs of cubecraft are down, Yesterday evening was one of them. People were very frustrated that they couldn't join CubeCraft and went to the discord server to ask for help and share their issue. Soon after staff-help got flooded with all the problems. Then the staff team did what they always do. They post a message in staff-help, pin it and redirect people to the pinned message. But the complaints about the server being down kept comming and no one checked the pinned message.
Then because the questions kept comming they locked staff-help untill the problems were resolved. Which is understandable, but quite frustating if you have a question regarding something else, or want to report a discord rule breaker. The channel was locked for nearly 30 minutes.

The idea
My suggestion is to make a channel in the important catagory, called: "Server status". In this channel you can see if the server is working or has issues. You may think that this isn't necesarry. But it is, it is annoying for staff to constantly redirect people to pinned messages, most of the people do not even look they post ther issue. It is also annoying for people who have a question not regarding the server issue, their question might get flooded. And staff-help doesn't have to get locked again. If you agree with this suggestion, then you can use the poll to vote what version you like the most. If you are unsure or disagree then you don't need to use the poll.

Version 1 - Hidden unless problems

In the first version the channel is hidden most of the time. This is because the servers are up 99% of the time and it will take less space and doesn't take attention away from the other important channels. But when the server is down the channel becomes visible, and the staff team can then post that the servers have issues, and something else like thatyou shouldn't come to staff-help with this issue. What the actual message should be will be for staff to decide.

Version 2 - Always shown
The second version is a bit different, but the idea is the same. Instead of hiding the channel when the problems are fixed, the channels stays up like all the other channels. The channel would then contain a message that the servers are up, but when they are down the message changes. You can even work with colour codes. Red = Aware of problems, trying to look for a fix. Yellow = Found the problem, rolling out the fix. Green = server is up. With colour codes is optional. Another advantage is that you can make it an annoucnement channel, all the servers that are linked to the channel will automatically get a message about the servers.

This would be very nice, if the server is down, staff help & other channels becomes very busy. and as you said it will also be locked which can be annoying for the staff-members but also for the players who have questions about different things.

And, version 1 and version 2 are both good options to implement. Although I would still prefer version 2 because then people know for sure that the server is either online (and the problem is on their end) so they don't have to ask about it or offline so they know it is not their problem.

Good suggestion, but I'm pretty sure that this won't help. People will still complain in staff help. I remember Younisco 'spamming' staff help that the team was working on a fix. But players still complained about it. People don't listen or read, all they do is complain if something doesn't work properly. And I'm pretty sure that this won't help. I'm reacting to your post with unsure. Simply because the suggestion is good, but most likely won't solve the problem.

I'm 99% sure that if the channel is not shown people will just not see it and complain on staff help lke Dutchyyy said, but I agree with version 2

id rather have our team work on actually resolving yhe issue instead of having to change a red square to an orange one. on top of that, people dont read pins - let stand a completely different channel
I disagree to be honest.

A different channel is more efficient and clear. You can instantly see if something is wrong and you don’t have that with pinned messages. Making a channel appear or change the colour with a bit if information is not much work.

And maybe people will still complain in staff-help, but even then it saves a lot of time to just ping the channel (#) instead of constantly telling those people to look at the pinned message.

Uhm, what's the difference between ''Look at pinned messages'' and ''Look at #cube-status''? This won't solve the problem.

This will definetly be a good addition. Make it nice and clear as to where it's located, exactly like you did tommy with the big red square indicating it's important. This will for sure make it more clear for the newer players.

I disagree with @Keanu to be honest. I think you waste more time directing people to read the pinned message over and over and over again than just turning an emoji into another emoji. Plus, you don't really have to change it, it could just be a channel that gets revealed when the server is down and the red square would always be there.

This is way more clear than how it is now, will prevent spam, it's more efficient.. i don't know why you'd vote no.

EDIT: I wanted to add something.

Right now, for server status, it's never really clear where you need to go to check it. It's not like those giant games like Fortnite and GTA that have tons of website displaynig the current status of the servers. I think it's nice if people atleast have a place where they can go to check the status, because currently you simply can't check it anywhere else other than staff help.

It is difference is that a pinned message is hidden away, sure you click on that if a mod tells you to. But this channel is shown, and with version 2 it will always be shown. Also in staff help there is alot of other chat, of people complaining, asking for help for other things, reporting rulebreakers., etc. This channel will be locked, you can find the information nice and easy. People come to staff-help to report minecraft players all the time. Yet #report-a-player is a channel, the same for #report-a-bug. I'd say that the amount of people reporting in #staff-help has lowered since these channels were introduced. In the long term people will remember where to look for when there is a server issue.

The colour coded squares are not necessary for this suggestion. If this were to get implemented feel free to change it to any emoji you want. The colour codes seemed like a nice edition to me. If you work with colour codes, even only with red and green. Then you don't even need to open the channel to see if there is a server issue.
I also think it takes around the same amount of time to write a message and pin it to change a emoji to another colour

Actually there is a difference.
Once you type the # and the first 2 letters, the channel pops up. Way faster and easier.
It is difference is that a pinned message is hidden away, sure you click on that if a mod tells you to. But this channel is shown, and with version 2 it will always be shown.

It's faster, but won't work, and here are a few reasons why:

- Players don't read when there are issues, they complain.
- There is a #report-a-player channel, but players still ask ''where can I report this hacker?''
- There is a #helpful-links channel but players still ask ''where can I apply for helper'', ''where can I submit my suggestions'', ''how to apply for YouTube rank'' etc...

Maybe it will help a little but a ''cube-status'' channel won't help.

The players who do decide to read before complaining will atleast have somewhere to go. Right now if the servers are down even they don't know what to do most of the time.

The amount of players that ask where to report a player have definetly decreased in my opinion. And with reporting a player there are many places to go. You can go to the forums, and there are dedicated channels displaying hwo to report a player as of right now. With server status, you don't have 1 dedicated channel or forum thread to go to.

I don't understand what the downside of this addition would be in any case? It's pretty much an objective improvement.

People don't even read pinned messages, even when we tell that to someone else right before they ask. I am fairly sure they also won't check a different channel. Besides, that would change ''SERVER IS DOWN PLZ FIX'' to ''SERVER IS DOWN WHEN IS FIX READY''. The way we do it right now, pinning a message and telling them to check it, is in my opinion better than cluttering the Discord with another channel which only our more known members will use.

And maybe people will still complain in staff-help, but even then it saves a lot of time to just ping the channel (#) instead of constantly telling those people to look at the pinned message.
Good thing we have copy & paste.

The main issue is that only our more known community members will know and care about that channel. Imagine, you play on CubeCraft as a bedrock player who isn't too involved in the community. You see that the server doesn't work, but you realize ''wait cube has a discord''. You join, and you see a channel called staff-help. Would you even bother checking those other channels? Even if they see #status channel, they will probably ask ''yo when is this fixed?'' instead of ''server down''.

I disagree with @Keanu to be honest. I think you waste more time directing people to read the pinned message over and over and over again than just turning an emoji into another emoji. Plus, you don't really have to change it, it could just be a channel that gets revealed when the server is down and the red square would always be there.
The only people who know where we are at is our Development Team. We as moderation do not know the exact stage of fixing during an incident simply because the dev team is too busy with actually fixing the issue than telling us that they found out the issue, it's not like we'd even understand what is wrong lol. While it might look as a very small thing to change an emoji, it'd require our dev team to waste time on telling someone ''we know the issue'' instead of fixing it. What would resolve this is just to keep and not change the emoji ~ it's not like sharing ''we know the issue'' will help the community ~ though still not a fan regardless.

I read all of the reactions underneath this post and I'm still unsure about this suggestion.

First of all, I think it doesn't solve the problem, as Keanu and Dutchyyy said. But I know some people do check other channels, like #report-a-player. So in that case, this small addition could be effective.

''SERVER IS DOWN PLZ FIX'' to ''SERVER IS DOWN WHEN IS FIX READY''
I'm afraid that's going to happen when this gets implemented, but there's still a chance people see this (new) channel and won't ask anything in #staff-help. I really am not sure. On the other hand, the pinned messages in #staff-help were already clear enough for some players.

The pros and cons of this suggestion are already mentioned, and they both have very good arguments. So I'm really curious about the results of this suggestion! :)

This is a good idea, However since the people who ask this question dont look at the chat first (the previous message might be explaining this), They could *on top of this* include an autoresponse; If a message in #staff-help is sent that contains the words "Cant join" "Server down" or similar it could inform the user about the situation, this would make it so staff members wouldnt need to redirect everyone one by one
Let me know what you think :)
