Hey,

As many of you may already know, there's an especific rule in the forums that disallows you to reply into a thread which has been inactive for 3 or more weeks. So, over time there's been lot of suggestions to improve this rule or make something easier to avoid necro-post. Not so long ago, @Jukaido suggested a quite nice thread which you can take a look into it here. The thread was about adding an auto-lock threads system to avoid new players or non-family-friends players making this mistake. The thread got escalated but it never got implemented, since there was some issues with this, because not always it's deemed as necro-post since you can reply on them if you have something quite relevant to add, but well, that all it's in the thread so you can take a look into it if you want.

So I have a solution for this problem that may avoid many necro-replies:

Why not adding a warning?

  • This would work like this: If a thread it's older than 3 weeks, it automatically would have a warning below the reply-box that says; "This thread is older than 3 weeks, are you sure you want to reply on it?". This could avoid a lot of mistakes.

Thanks for reading it out, don't forget to vote above in the poll and give your feedback!

I've seen this on another forum as well from a server I won't call the name of, it's definitely a nice feature and I agree with it. It makes things more clear for everyone and I don't see any down-sides to it.

I'll escalate this thread and see what the team thinks about it!

I want to know what the people who answered "no" think. There are no bad parts to this suggestion from me! I understand that many people don't realize they are necro-posting when they are, so having this is a very good idea! :D
I agree with this, just not sure if the forum template supports it. If it does then yes from me!
This would definitely help to prevent necro-posting. Overall, I'd love to see this implemented, so I'm voting yes. Good luck! 😁
Yes. This sounds like a good way to help deal with the issue.
+1
Edit: Also you @Finixly!

I take this post to thank you all guys your support! <3

Thread Update: I've changed the title in order to clarify it.

Why not just automatically close posts that are 3 weeks old over warning someone? And that warning message I would think a lot of people would ignore
Some people may look something up on google about cube and get a year/month old posts

I don’t think a warn to get then kicked off the forums would be fair, it’s something that is not that big to be warned over, it’s like accidentally using the eating bug in cube, you eat then you start running after tou eat and it eats again, I never meant to eat but it did, just like some people didn’t realize that the post was 3 weeks inactive if they looked it up on google :) it’s not worth a warn

If you read the whole thread and not only the title, you'll understand why this is not an option at all. Even though this was suggested few months ago here and in fact it got escalated, it had a problem bigger than the positive stuff. The problem of this is that as you know, you can sometimes reply to a inactive thread if you do have something quite relevant to add, but if this would get added, then, you wouldn't be able to do this.

So, not an option at all.

I'm not suggesting to warn a player and kick them off the forums. I'm suggesting to add a warn-message for everyone. And, If they do ignore the warning, then they'll get an official warning from the staff team. But at the moment, this is a really nice alternative.

But what’s the point of adding a warning message if they are going to get warned anyway? That’s just stupid, if yhey are going to get warned afterwards why not auto lock posts? That just makes it so much easier if your going to warn them anyway, or just leave the posts open I just think it’s dumb
As well I did read the entire post

I told you in my 1st paragraph -> “Some people may look something up on google about cube and get a year/month old posts”

The point it's to avoid an official warning from a staff. This is not exactly a warning itself, it's more a 'informational message'. If you see that, and you notice that the thread is not active, then you'll not receive any warning from a staff because you will be able to prevent it. Do you know what even happens if you get an staff warning? Well, I guess you don't, so I'll explain ...

When you get an official warning from a staff, at first warning it actually doesn't happen at all, it's just like a normal warning, but if you make the same mistake again, then you can get a forums temporary ban.

Auto-lock threads is not an option, at all. It was already suggested in the past and it didn't get successful.

I know what a warning is, if your going to add a warning message and if they send the message whats the point? There still going to get warned, theres no difference between how it is now, auto locking is so much better and if this is going to be added why not autolocking? If they are going to get warned anyway why not just autolock it?

Oh lord...

The main goal of what I'm suggesting it's to prevent the necro-posting replies (x3
time). If you enter to a thread and you do see that there's a big red warning, then, you will wonder whether to reply or not because you can be punished.

This is way more better than auto-lock threads. This is probably going to be my last answer about the topic since I've answered you three times.

Anyway you're already taking for granted that this system won't work. It would be difficult to not see the warning...

I think realistically.... And realistically people can easily find a post on google that is x months old and has been inactive, some people don’t care about warning messages. They just read over it... if theres going to be a warning message, and the user gets warned after posting it after accepting the fact is they are still going to get warned by a staff member... If auto locking didn’t get added I don’t think this would either, Auto locking is a much better method and one that is pointless if you still send the reply anyways

I think it's so people are actually aware they are necro-ing, as many reply to threads they aren't aware are inactive. (especially if someone else necroed and you reply after as it has been bumped, not knowing it's a necro)

It just to let people know that they're necro-posting, so they will think it better before doing necro-posting.

If there's now like 4-5 necro-posting cases (a week), perhaps it would decrease to 1-2 cases. Basically this one:
