sussy saplings

Im playing on java edition 1.18.1 and i cant have more than one sapling on my island. And when i place the one than i can it doesnt even show me the placing animation of my hand. I want to complete the quest theory of gravity (obtain 50 apples) but this significantly complicates it. Am i the only one who has this weird glitch?
