Hi there, iv watched so many youtube videos but could not get any information, in what radius do mobs spawn? And how tall should i build my mob grinder?

I play on Win10 Minecaft bedrock

In a 7 by 3 by 7 radius but they DON'T spawn on air, only "blocks" (open fence gates, water, buttons, actual blocks, ect). I suggest just putting the spawners inside the floor of a funnel as they won't spawn below it unless there is blocks below it, which is easy to remove
