What you didn't realize was when they reached the palace, it wasn't truly Olaf, but it was I in disguise!!! I realized that the whole time I was at the palace, when in fact we had been fighting over a hill, so I rushed back to the hill, arriving just before you did. I sent after you the blue enders knowing it was one of your few weaknesses. My hill. Elsa's palace.
