The long lasting remedy would require these offended people to learn to be less offended by things people say over the internet and frankly real life. Can't hide people from the real world. Does more damage than good.
You can't do much about them remembering it.

I know. But he might just go around and do it again and offend multiple people with dark pasts corresponding with cancer.
