It would, try creating a suggestion thread about team selection for Bedrock.

The problem with team selection though, is that obviously people would take advantage of this and crossteam. I'm sure that team selection has been considered but it would just be so easy for people to fake wr or get on leaderboards with this. A better alternative would be an option to duel people, as it could let you play against your friends without altering your stats.
