I'm pretty sure they said they removed it in the speed Eggwars update.

Just checked, don't see it being removed in any recent news articles.

The map Area51 has been removed in the update before the Speed Eggwars update. That's why you don't see that map anymore in 1.8 or 1.9+.

Is the map Area51 back? Oops, sorry. Didn't know that, I heard from someone that the map has been removed but that seems to be not true.
