AXE vs Sword Question

Always wondered...

Is there any particular reason why axes are more expensive than swords in all eggwars gamemodes?

AND

Why isn't there a sharp 5 axe in the OP mode shop?

Seems a bit unbalanced imo

Axes do more damage. Yes they are slower, but if the player is able to land every single hit, axe would win.

While axes have more damage, swords have a higher dps.

There's no sharp 5 axe in the shop because it would be too weak compared to the sword. The damage difference is smaller proportional to the attack speed so the sword becomes way better. The increased cost is meant to represent the bigger use of materials in the vanilla crafting recipe.

Stone axe 9 damage 0.8 attack speed is 7.2 dps
Stone sword 5 damage 1.6 attack speed is 8.0 dps

You see these are kinda close in dps. But once you increase the damage, it changes.

Sharp 5 dia axe 13 damage 1.0 attack speed is 13 dps
Sharp 5 dia sword 10 damage 1.6 attack speed is 16 dps

This doesn't account for armour which decreases the damage reduction from stronger weapons but you get the point,

play in creative mode on single player, there spawn a mob like the villager or zombie pig, choose the sword or axe and the items you want, and observe which one suits you best which one suits you best, whether with the sword or with the axe

personally i win more duels on pvp 1v1 with the axe, fights 1v1

and i use more the sword for games like skywars, eggwars, lucky islands or pvp games with much players.

Axes in 1.9 are stronger than the swords.Thats why

Yes. In 1.9+ axes do more attack damage, but then the axes does not rise as quickly. The sword is quicker to hit.

As Luukieee said in 1.9+ an axe does more damage but takes longer to attack. Sword can attack faster.
