Web Allowing users to delete their own messages.

HELLO CUBECRAFTERS!!!
As this day ends, (at least for me) I would like to present a proposition. One that I find surprising that no one has suggested before. Being able to delete your own messages in forums.

Yes, I know, mind-blowing.

But... why bother??

Well, this happened to me not that long ago, (in fact it was yesterday) but as I was responding to a forum with just a sentence of information, someone replied to one of my previous messages, I posted mine, refreshed the page to see the new one, and was greeted with another message that could be responded to with just one sentence. So, I did just that. The messages were later merged by staff. (No hate intended) Example below.


00:00 Person 1 Message 1: Imputing my thoughts.

00:01 Person 1 Drafting another message.

00:02 Person 2 responds to message 1

00:02.5 Person 1 Posts message 2, and refreshes page.

00.03 Person 1 Posts response to Person 2's message.


Now, I could edit my 3rd message into the second message, but that would leave me with a blank message that would have to be reported to get removed. OR I could have just edit the 2nd one to add the 3rds message without posting it, but mistakes happen and its always better if the people could delete their own messages.

Theres probably a better way to explain this, but that's all I could think of. And no, you can't delete the first message in a forum.

Hope this made sense, if it didn't, you can probably see a better reason to add this.

Totally agree! Just a couple days ago I had to ask a mod to delete one of my threads. I was really surprised I couldn't do this myself! Hope this gets implemented :)

Never had this issue before , but it would be time consuming if i had to ask for a moderator to delete my message each time .. agreed

This is actually a really well thought out suggestion.


I can definitely understand the situation you described especially when conversations move quickly and you end up posting multiple short replies that could have been combined. While staff merging messages helps keep threads clean, having the ability to delete your own recent messages would give users more control and reduce the need for staff intervention in small situations like that.


That being said, I can also understand why this might not currently be enabled. Allowing users to delete messages could potentially be abused for example, removing messages during discussions or other important things, so if something like this were implemented, it would probably need limitations such as a short time window to delete your own post.


Overall, I think it’s a very reasonable suggestion. It wouldn’t change the forums drastically, but it could make things smoother for active discussions.

Ya that was the only reason that crossed my mind on why this is not a thing. Maybe they can make so that the mods can restore/see deleted posts?

In support of this, but there would probably have to be some limitations to prevent abuse as others have said - could easily be used to troll or disrupt threads.
