I've just read https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/if-something-isnt-right.244834/. It includes an external link to Imperva which explains DDoS attacks and how to protect yourself against them.

So... you could've guessed that the following was mentioned in the article of Imperva:

And what does CubeCraft block / not allow on their server? Exactly: VPNs.

Hackers use vpns to bypass ipbans. Blocking vpns makes sure less hackers go on cubecraft.

Like the articles says resetting your IP will most likely do the trick to prevent DoS attacks, if you're experiencing them. However if the attacks still continue a VPN can help. So taking this step can help you with your DoS attacks but unfortunatly makes it unable to play on Cubecraft. To create the best community experience blocking VPNs result in less hackers switching to different accounts to bypass their punishments. The percentage of people who need to buy a VPN to prevent DoS attacks is probably around 0.

u can use a VPN but some dont work. anyway i think the reason they made that thread was either:
Some concerned parent caused some trouble
Some data privacy law may have been passed in europe forcing games to have at least some namesake redressal system for kids
Or Mojang wanted to emphasize kids privacy

I really doubt ccg would do something like this out of their own concern for the players’ well being
