Besides this, if you're going to make the consistency argument you'd have to disallow teaming in FFA too, which would be (near) impossible to enforce, and cause a lot of backlash from nearly all FFA players.

For consistency I’d say yes. Other than that, I like teaming, it’s one of the few games that still gives me so much enjoyment in a party.
It's actually allowed for a reason, in Minerware (along with all other gamemodes where teaming is allowed) there's no team mode. Therefore when playing in a party you are (and should) be allowed to team.
