You know who you are people. I'm not gonna say names, but I will say things that are directed at specific people who should know exactly who they are.

Before we start, let's go over how the bow has fared over time.

Pre-1.9: Ick. Swords absolutely dominated over bows and a top 1% bow person was equivalent to an above average sword player. Bows needed more of a meta.

1.9: Good start. Bows are still worse than swords (but not axes), but the gap has closed due to the cooldown. Next thing:

1.9.2 to 1.10.2: This is where bows start to gain leverage. The DPS gap dropped again due to armor piercing and high tier bows are even with high tier swords.

1.11 to 1.12.2: Here we go. With swords now having the same disadvantage that bows had 1.9 to 1.10.2, bows are now fully equivalent to swords. Power 5 bows are now firmly the game's best weapon.

1.13: Final death in Minecraft's melee only combat system. Tridents now allow for amazing long range combos, some of which are better than melee combos. Going forward, long range combat will likely dominate.

But through all of this, over half of this dumb PvP community seemingly still has a hate for anything that's not straight up sword combat.
Examples:
- Trying to remove lava. Anyone who has DECENT knowledge of combat knows that lava does very little but block your screen and slow you down. Clearly, the sword crucifiers don't know anything about combat, mkay
- No projectiles. No projectiles as a whole was just a cheap attempt by anti-bow people to get methods that don't match their's out of the game. Make it a seperate board already.
- "Anti camping threads" - All these so called "Anti camping" threads are really just threads asking for bows to be nerfed because it doesn't fit their conformist playstyle. I can't even remember the last time a base camper killed me (mid campers are obviously a different story)
- Archer kit being the best kit in FFA - Best example. The archer kit has a SLIGHT advantage over the sword kits and now sword people act like they can't win against archers while previously sword people won 85+% of fights. BUT NO I NEED TO BE CONFORMIST AND REFUSE TO ACCEPT ANYTHING NOT WITH SWORD
- People who think updating to 1.12 is a bad idea - There's not a single negative, save for dev time (???), and even that isn't much of a negative, but some people are trying to hide why they don't want to update (this one is mostly speculation)
- Management. Ever notice how kits with bows in them have weaker armor? If the server was 1.12 this might be a bit legitimate but it's not 1.12 so again, more conformism.


I know this isn't really a suggestion, it's just a complaint against a bunch of people. Move it somewhere else pls

Not that I am saying don’t update to 1.12 (though I am just because i’d Rather just wait til 1.13 to update entirely)
I can give a reason why not to
To some versions are synonymous with resource pack downloading
I am 1 of those people who can’t play lucky islands without being in 1.10.2

YES THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEBODY ELSE GETS IT.

The bow is a weapon, just like the sword and axe. There's nothing "nooby" about using it; it's actually quite difficult to maintain a gap between you and your opponent when one missed arrow closes so much distance. There's nothing "unfair" about it either, just strafe out of the way, it's not that hard if you understand that being predictable will get you punished. Bow-spamming isn't easy to do either, and exhausts most of your quiver. Bows are only a problem when you're using them to camp fifty feet in the air in Skywars, which is against the rules anyways.

Bows were my favorite weapon back in 1.7-1.8 because swords required a decent fps and better ping than I had on most servers. Just a punch 1 bow was enough to combo even 2-3 people who didn't have bows themselves back then if you consistently landed your shots at the perfect timing to get fully charged shots.

I started to dislike using bows though after 1.9 because you can no longer fall and shoot accurately and the distance you can shoot seems to have dropped. (Or maybe that's just me) This makes most of the cool shots with jumping off cliffs and just sniping players outside my render distance impossible. :(

I will say though that the damage for bows has increased way too much through armor. When I played on a 1.9 practice server you could get a power 2 bow kit which could two shot anyone with iron armor. Power 5 is even more powerful and not even prot 5 diamond really stands up against it. I guess you could argue that people should start using projectile protection more to counter this but that leaves you at a huge disadvantage against every other attack. I like how shields have nerfed this extra damage but a Power 5 bow can still shred a shield in a few shots.

That's kind of my own rant on bows in 1.9.2+ [plaim]:p[/plain]
