For those of you unfamiliar with Katamari:
The game's plot concerns a diminutive prince on a mission to rebuild the stars, constellations, and Moon, which were accidentally destroyed by his father, the King of All Cosmos. This is achieved by rolling a magical, highly adhesive ball called a katamari around various locations, collecting increasingly larger objects, ranging from thumbtacks to people to mountains, until the ball has grown great enough to become a star.

My idea for how this could work:
One player is chosen randomly to be the Prince of All Cosmos, the one who rolls the katamari around to collect things. All the other players are spawned randomly throughout a map. Their goal is to stop the katamari from getting bigger or rolling things up. Loot chests will spawn that are only available to the non-katamari players. These chests can contain things like swords, bows, knockback sticks, armor, and tnt. Items can spawn on the ground too, allowing the Prince to decisively roll these up before players get a chance to use them. Players can use these to attack the katamari and possibly damage it, making the Prince's hard work fall off so he has to recollect it.
The Prince:
The Player:

The Prince:
- Disguised as something that looks like a katamari, maybe a falling sand block with the ID of a beacon?
- Cannot attack; just roll things up.
- Cannot access loot chests (if implemented)
- Must have a katamari of a certain size before he can roll certain items up
- Has normal speed
- Cannot be killed
The Player:
- Has slower speed to emulate people in the original game/make it possible for the Prince to escape
- Can attack the katamari with anything; higher damaging items knock more things off the katamari
- Cannot move or attack when rolled up by the katamari
- Can free players who have been rolled up by attacking the katamari
- Sword- Deals higher damage to the katamari than fists
- Bow- Allows ranged damage to the katamari if you have arrows
- Knockback Stick- Sends the katamari flying back, possibly damaging it against a wall
- Armor- Higher armor rating means you're harder to roll up
- Splash Potions- Splash potions of various types can be used to hinder the Prince (Nausea, blindness, etc.)
- Used to roll up everything from blocks to mobs to players
- Must pick up smaller things before you pick up larger things
- Size of the katamari can be kept using the Scoreboard function or be written into a plugin
- Small Blocks (Tripwire hooks, slabs, torches, heads, redstone, cake, flower pots, ladders, etc.)
- Small Entities (Chickens, Silverfish, Bats, Small Slimes, Items, Item Frames, Cave Spiders)
- Medium Blocks (End portal frames, signs, fences, fence gates, doors, trapdoors, glass panes, etc.)
- Medium Entities (Pigs, Sheep, Spiders, Squids, Minecarts, Boats Medium Slimes, etc.)
- All Blocks
- Large Entities (Villagers, Cows, Horses, Zombies, Skeletons, Large Slimes, EnderCrystals etc.)
- Players
- Giant Entities (Giants, Ghasts, Withers, Enderdragons)
- Size-gain per object can be decided by the devs if they like the idea.
