I've noticed on Discord that the swear rule is extremely strict, to the point that words that aren't really super offensive may get you a warning for inappropiate language. The most known excuse for it is "safety and comfort of the younger members", which is... a bit over the top, don't you think?

As perhaps everyone knows - to make an account pretty much anywhere nowadays, you should be at the very least 13 years old. If you're younger than that, then why are you even here?

But, if you're 13 or more, then why do you need to be babysat by the staff team? Perhaps my feedback will be quite rough, but as someone who was moderating spaces for <18 and >18 year olds, and as someone who's just a regular member, it might give you some insight.

This, by no means is an attack on the staff or anyone else.

First of all, I think generally part of curating the online experience is on the person's side, and by no means the staff should be babysitting the younger audience for their comfort. Simple concept - if you feel uncomfortable with something (because you have every right to), just click off, don't look at it, and enjoy the good parts. I know, crazy.

Second of all - context matters. BY A LOT.
Saying a swear word as a way to express your feelings, e.g. about a lost match or something happening is totally okay, and to be fair, a part of our life. Plus, it is very different from using swears to attack someone.
Muting someone for doing the former is pretty much over the top, if not laughable. Why not change that? What's wrong with expressing your extreme feelings?

In conclusion - younger audience needs to learn how to curate their experience on their own and should not be expected to have special treatment by the staff, because they are "young". Throwing the babysitting and curation on the staff may impact online spaces negatively, at the cost of older audiences who are already (most of the time) able to curate what they are consuming.

This, again, is not a proposal to open wide the gates for harrassment, unlimited swearing (if you really want to do the babysitting role), heavily inappropiate jokes or anything. It is only to make the swearing less strict and not over the top to the point where it becomes a laughing stock.

I ask y'all to be civil in this thread and be constructive about it. Treat it as a feedback or suggestion, it was supposed to be a mix of both.

ETA: To all the silent voters - you do know that your opinion holds barely any helpful value if you don't explain why you disagree/agree, right?

I understand where you’re coming from but in my opinion this isn’t really a big problem but staff is extremely inconsistent with punishing people. If you said something against the rules but are a friend of the staff member, nothing happens except deleting the message but if you aren’t you immediately get punished. Favouritism is the biggest problem here and I’m sick of it.

I haven't really noticed the favouring so I can't say anything but really punishing for non-offending swearing is laughable.

I definitely do agree with this, like no one is making anyone be anywhere, if you’re not comfortable with something there’s no one telling you you have to be there. The same goes for people complaining about how everything that happens in the discord server is drama, like just skip the bad parts and focus on the good parts it isn’t hard

Well I definitely think context is very important, and right now you can use acronyms as long as they’re not targeted so it does kind of matter already in the rules, but I’m not sure why you would have to swear after losing a game, like come on it’s a block game? It’s not like your life is going to end. Also I don’t agree that swearing to express emotion is a ‘part of life’, there are so many situations where you can’t swear even if something bad happens, and I’m not sure why you would have to.

So well for me I don’t really have a problem with the swearing rule, I can see why it’s there because they don’t want people to be upset, but I can also see your point, as swearing shouldn’t (and probably doesn’t) really hurt anyone. In my opinion the favouritism someone mentioned earlier is actually a bigger problem than the swearing rule, but a possible solution to make everyone (at least somewhat) happy, would be to allow acronyms and abbreviations as long as they’re not targeted but not the full word, if you get what I mean?

You're one of those linguistic purists amirite? Swearing just happens. If you don't swear that's good. If you do swear, good for you.
Are you really this tilted over someone using swears to amplify their feelings? Because mind you, and that's going to blow your mind - swearing doesn't mean a terrible lack of vocabulary, nor lack of respect; if used in an appropiate context.

Again, I cannot speak on it as I have NOT noticed it yet.

That makes absolutely no sense, why not allow the full word? Because some kid or their mom will get tilted over a meanie word that is used in a non-offending context? It's up to the person to avoid it if they know their family is going to tilt like crazy over swears, not the community's job.

Again, this is about the SWEARING, not FAVOURITISM. If you feel like it's this important, make a thread and don't offtop in this one.

I'm not sure where you got any of this from? I never said I personally had a problem with swearing nor did I say it's always something bad, all I said was that in some situations you can't swear and I don't think it's a part of life. If you're visiting the Queen and you stub your toe you're not going to swear right?

Because that will never happen, there's no point in even trying. Allowing the abbreviated form is like a compromise between not allowing swearing at all and allowing the full word, that makes sense right?

It was one sentence xd

It's natural to swear, but you do you, Mx. Purist.

Won't happen, because...? The children will get tilted? Again, time for them to learn curating their online life on their own.

It is now two replies that talk about a different issue.

It's still up-to-date, you're now trying to stir up drama - why? Are you biased or something?

You said yourself that you would like the replies to be civil and constructive, so I would expect you to do the same. Anything I wanted to say about the actual topic has been said already so I won't go any further, but you're not being very helpful to us by insulting people for giving their opinions.

It's about the server looking non-toxic and therefor more welcoming to newcomers rather than for little children. I certainly wouldn't stay in a server when people are just saying swear words all day. It looks better on the community to keep them out
Again, curate the experience yourself. It's not the community's fault someone's uncomfortable with meanie words

Show me where did I insult anyone? I think it's fair to jab back if someone's off-topic and trying to make swearing folks look bad for no actual reason.

No one is trying to make anyone look bad except for you xD
People are just having an opinion, nothing that is being said is disrespectful except for you xD

LOL at this point this thread is nothing but mass-jabbing at me for daring to have an opinion about the rules. I'm apparently sorry I will not share feedback in the future?? What do you want me to do now? Kowtow and admit that you're always right? Because I don't get it.

It was a little Dutch saying about people copying other people. People who don't regularly swear are probably less likely to swear after seeing an abbreviation they don't know very well. If you see the full swear words, you'll start to use them as well. Creating a never ending cycle of swearing (Or, well, until the supply of new people is halted).

I don't think swear words should be allowed, there is no need to use them (if you're physically hurt you might want to swear, studies have shown it reduces pain). I do believe there are degrees of swearing which CubeCraft is not taking into account. For example, calling someone a pussy has nothing to do with the female body parts but rather the animal which is more likely to run from danger than fight it heads on. I believe in this context, there is hardly anything wrong with it. There are a few more examples like this one but in the end it's a matter of perspective, which is and is not a swear word.
In the end, I believe the moderation team (having experience and knowing more about which players are generally playing on their server) has a better view as to which should fall under the rule than any group of players that enjoy swearing.

And in the very end, the same logic applies. You don't want to follow the rules, do it in a different discord server where it is allowed. In a DM group or in the person's DM.

If you don't respect the rules, why should I? What's the point of it?

Anyways, if you want to continue this mass-jabbing, then do it without me.

I REALLY regret even making this thread. If I knew people would start this attack out of nowhere I wouldn't even do it lmao. But I guess 🤷
In my opinion you shouldn’t make suggestions in the first place if you’re don’t accept the criticism or discussions. XHappyMood gave clear arguments and if you can’t accept that this suggestion goes to nowhere

lol again this was a mass attack and not "civil discussion" but either way i hope mods close the thread <3
This isn’t an attack. These people don’t agree with your suggestion and they give their constructive feedback. That’s what you wanted at the end of the day.
