Hello everyone, this is a tutorial of the name changing feature on the Mojang website which released back on February 4th 2015. The source of this post is Mojang.
What Do I need to do this? Will it cost money?
The only thig you will need is Mojang account. If you currently sign in to Minecraft with an email address, you're all good. There are no other requirements and it doesn't cost at all.
Can I steal somebody's name? Can I call myself "Dinnerbone" too?
No. There is already someone called Dinnerbone and names are still unique. You can't have the same name as another player; they will have to change their name for you to be able to take it. 37 days after they change their name, the old one will become available.
Can I change the capitalisation of my name?
Of course, you can!
Does this mean that I can pick a new name every day?
No. After changing your name you have to wait 30 days before you can do it again.
What if I change my name and then realise that I don't like it? Can I change it back to my old name?
Yes. But you still need to wait the 30 days.
What happens to my points, etc. when changing username?
Everything is kept the same because MC usernames are based under a UID identification on databases. This isn't really something that is necessary to know.
How do you do it?
Read this below!
Step 1: Go to https://accounts.mojang.com/
Step 2: Login with your minecraft/mojang details - Login button is on the on the top right.
Step 3: Once you have logged in you will be taken to this page:
Step 4: Click on the "Change"
Step 5:
Type your new profile name you desire, type your password in and click "Change Name" - then you are complete - your name will successfully be changed!

STEP 1: Hover over your name in top right corner of your forum screen.
Step 2: Click the box "Change Username"
Step 3: You will be taken to a page like the Mojang one, were you will have the desire to change your forum name. You must wait 30 days again to change it.
