Long answer: Emeralds are currently being updated so you may see them become more useful in the future, especially in late end-game where it's an arms race to get the best gear, and enchants will play a more significant role.

Emeralds are kinda experimental if you seen past updates they are being changed consistently, I’ve personally used them in long games to take the win

Emerald system is being revamped for the 1.19 update like @Enderium said. - Click Here for Update Board (In Eggwars Season 2)
And CubeCraft wouldn't just remove a feature implemented in the game, thats just downgrading instead of an actual update.
