Do you get a kill in duels if the opponent leaves?

The question in the title. Sometimes I hit someone in the void or put lava on them and they leave before they die. Do I still get the kill?

Not sure, I know that you'll get a win.

If you hit him and he dies in any way, you get the kill. If you didn't, you won't. That's it.

Yes you do. Imagine a skywars game with only 2 players left. You are one of them. The other player jumps off, but you didn't hit them. You won't get the kill, but you do get the win.

I tested this with my brother, and you are stating a false fact. I looked at my stats before I joined a game with him:

And I looked at my stats after he left. I did not hit him.

Or it is the stats that do not update, or you are stating a wrong fact.

You do get the kills when the opponent leaves now. Your stats are probably not updating, which is a bit odd since the duel stats usually update really quick.

No you don't , but now i see that i can i don't know i mean per example i was at 723 wins and 710 kills , now im at 723 kills and 710 wins , they got switched like WoW , also with the miner kit you don't get the kill , but now i think you do! lol (sorry for my bad english) :)
