Do mob spawners work with water (Bedrock)

Hello,
Im currently focusing in setting up my long term mob grinder, but for whatever reason the mob spawners (zombie, spider and cave spider) do not work when they are set up with water below. They are floating off the ceiling... not sure if that’s an issue. But I was just wondering what he problem is here as I hahe waited an hour for some to spawn yet no luck yet. If this is a known issue is there any intentions for it to Be fixed ?

1. Build a box
2. Line mob spawners along back wall
3. Put water sources in front of them
4. Set up no-pass zone (use slabs) to keep mobs in grinder
5. Wait for placement cooldown to end

WARNING: this is a manual-only grinder, you might be able to add fall damage
