No doubt in my mind that it is the loot update because of the long awaited update to vanity, the main change was how it makes it considerably easier to add content meaning we are actually able to add tons of cool stuff every new season and much better content too.

CubeCraft would be nothing without the 2.1 update.
https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/cube-craft-2-1.32574/
This update introduced fundamental features that still continue to add replay value to the server to this day. Achievements gave players a sense of accomplishment to strive for, satisfying the completionist in all of us, whereas Daily Achievements introduced an incentive to play on a routine basis. Most significant however was the Vanity Menu and Cubelets, which inventivised people to continue playing and also rewarded efficient victories in an assortment of gamemodes. They allowed for unique customisation, giving players an identity outside their rank and username, whereas global levels introduced an element of competition that was well-needed. Prior to this update, you would play a game and get points. That was it. No achievements, no cubelets, no experience points, and alongside the much despised 'The EULA and You' update (https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/the-eula-and-you-changes-to-cube-craft-games.11061/), no rewards for placing on the leaderboards. Also, Spectator Mode was added, making it far more bearable to wait out the end of a match. Just look at the number of likes if you need an example of its significance, bearing in mind the thread was posted in May of 2015 (pre-Eggwars and the Dutch & Spanish invasions).

I would like to vote for the "eula and you" update. I did not play on the server at that point but all those pay to win things sound terrible, thanks Mojang.
