Instead of building a standard 4 x 4 oak farm with spaces in between each tree like this:
Build something like this! (But oak, not birch, of course)
The large amount of leaves means more chances to get an apple drop! Plus, you’ll get TONS of wood. If you don’t need all of that wood, you can always sell it for a small profit!
Even if there are no gaps in between the oak saplings, they will still grow. If you do not have the Skyblock Coins to buy the oak saplings required for something like that, remember that this is only a side quest and will not hinder your profile’s progression if you wait till you’re richer.

Unfortunately, I have no clue. I usually let them fall by themselves though, as I think it gives more, but I can’t guarantee.
